The Minister of Health and Social Protection of the Republika Srpska, Alen Seranic, said that the epidemiological situation in RS is extremely worrying and that in the last seven days there has been a sharp increase in the number of infected people.
He stated that almost all local communities in the Republika Srpska are recording an increase in the number of cases of the coronavirus, with Banja Luka leading the way, which is expected from the aspect of the number of inhabitants, Vijesti.ba writes.
Seranic pointed out that in the last three to four days, there has been a sharp increase in the number of hospitalized.
“During one evening, there were 20-30 admissions at the University Clinical Center of Republika Srpska, which speaks enough about the pressure on the health system,” he said.
He also stated that about 100 patients are currently hospitalized in the University Clinical Centre RS, and about 150 in other hospitals.
“We have used this period to prepare. We have procured equipment, we have a sufficient number of everything needed for intensive care units … We have clear treatment protocols and significant funds have been invested to expand capacity. The hospital system will certainly withstand the pressure, “he said.
When it comes to the possible introduction of new measures, Seranic stated that the primary goal is to protect the health of the population and preserve the economy, and that all previous measures are aimed at that.
“There will be certain measures that will refer to certain sectors, but that will also be assessed according to the situation in a specific local community,” he said. The Minister appealed to the citizens to be responsible and respect the existing measures – to wear masks, adhere to physical distances, not to gather in large groups, etc. because, as he said, without the responsibility of the individual and the solidarity of the community, it will be very difficult to cope with the spread of the virus.
