Rehabilitation and equipping of laundry premises in Cantonal Hospital “Dr. Irfan Ljubijankic” in Bihac has been completed to the benefit of both the local population and the migrants, refugees and asylum seekers.
The activities were perused within the project “Response to humanitarian and health needs of migrants, asylum seekers and refugees”, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, and implemented in cooperation with the Danish Refugee Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It complements the efforts of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Social Policy of the Una-Sana Canton to adequately respond to the current migration crisis.
“We continuously highlight the strain the health care system is facing due to the impact of increased numbers of Persons of Concern residing in BiH. This situation requires the mobilization of all medical staff to provide a large number of medical examinations. This is only possible when everybody works together and facilities are properly equipped. In times of COVID-19 hygiene is of enormous importance.
The rehabilitation of the laundry allows to provide an adequate supply of clean linen to all hospital departments. This ensures the highest standards of cleanliness and hygiene for all patients, said Patrick Egli, Deputy Director of Cooperation at the Swiss Embassy in BiH.
BAM 175,530.77 are invested for restoration and equipping of laundry department, designated for maintaining hygiene, sanitary and epidemiological standards.
“The Danish Refugee Council is proud to support the Cantonal hospital in Bihac, together with our partners. This will specifically help in alleviating the humanitarian and health needs. The rehabilitation of the laundry department will improve the quality of services, not only for migrant, asylum seekers and refugees, but also for the local population,“ said Nicola Bay, DRC BiH Country Director.
