Minister of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sifet Podzic, met with the Commander of the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, Brigadier General William Edwards.
General Edwards was interested in the activities of the Ministry of Defense and the Armed Forces of BiH in the conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic. He expressed his condolences to Minister Podzic because of a member of the Armed Forces of BiH who died last week from a coronavirus infection.
Defense Minister Podzic thanked the NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo for recent donations of protective equipment, as well as the member countries of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization that sent their assistance to Bosnia and Herzegovina through the mechanisms of the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center (EADRCC).
The Minister stated that so far 11 members of the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces BiH have contracted the COVID-19 virus. In addition to the aforementioned death, eight of them have been cured and two are still positive.
The participation of the AF BiH in peace support operations in Afghanistan, Mali, Congo and the Central African Republic continues normally and none of the members of the AF BiH in these missions are infected.
General Edwards congratulated Minister Podzic on the protection measures taken in the MoD and AF BiH, as well as the fact that the infection did not enter the barracks of the AF BiH. He offered every further support on his part.
