Coordination of the Serb associations of Mostar knocked on the door of every Orthodox family in the city on Neretva River right before the Easter. Hardworking volunteers shared greeting cards and packages with 11,000 painted and decorated Easter eggs.
“We are happy to visit our fellow citizens who are celebrating Easter, bring them this gift and show them that we think about them. Besides Easter eggs, we also gave them greeting cards that contain the symbol of this great holiday and the story of how the tradition of painting eggs started,” said Bojana, one of the volunteers.
These visits have several goals, and they are meant to show that nobody is forgotten and left, especially during the holidays.
“We want to talk with everybody, to ask people for their health, to see where they live, and to let them know that there are organizations that are taking care of them. People really like that, you can see that this gesture means a lot to them. There are even some tears, often when we visit older people,” said Hana, one of the volunteers as well.
“Volunteers have great experiences from Mostar. Easter eggs were provided by the coordination that is consisted of nine Serbian associations from Mostar,” said Bojana Andjelopolj.
The value of the gift is not in material, but in spiritual and human act, and Easter knocked on the door of many people in Mostar this year.
